State Funds Available for Roads That Provide Access to Minnesota Public Recreation Facilities

Written by Gail Leverson, MBA, EDFP - Senior Funding Specialist | Jul 18, 2022 3:11:25 PM

The State Park Road Account (SPRA) Program has $4 million available statewide for 2023 projects. SPRA funds exist to establish or improve county, township, and city roads that provide access to state parks, state trails, state forests, public water accesses, and other state designated outdoor recreation sites.

Counties, townships, and city governments are eligible to apply.

SPRA funds can be used for up to 100% of construction and right-of-way acquisition costs. Engineering fees are paid by the local unit of government.

Priority will be given to projects that enhance access to outdoor recreation facilities, address safety issues, and include additional cost sharing by local government.

The deadline to apply is November 1, 2022. Grant awards will be announced in April 2023.
