# Up to $250,000 Grant Available Through Recreational Trails Program

## 1. Program & Description

[The Recreational Trails Program](https://www.parkrec.nd.gov/business/grants/recreational-trails-program) is an 80/20 matching grant program administered at the state level through the NDPRD, and federally through the Federal Highway Administration. Grants are reimbursement-based with a minimum request of $10,000 to a maximum of $250,000.

 

## 2. Eligibility

**Eligible applicants include**:

- Cities, counties, and townships
- Park boards and park districts
- State and federal agencies
- Registered non-profit organizations
- Federally-recognized Indian tribes

**Eligible projects**: Examples of eligible projects include the construction of new recreation trails, restoration of existing trails, development and rehabilitation of trailside and trailhead facilities and trail linkages, purchase and lease of recreational trail construction and maintenance equipment, land acquisition/easements, and trail accessibility assessment.

*Only federal, state, and municipal agencies qualify for funding of equipment for recreational trail construction and maintenance.*

 

## 3. Type of Funding

Grants are reimbursed based on up to 50% of the total eligible costs with a maximum award of $350,000. The local match can consist of cash; the value of materials, labor, and equipment usage by the local sponsor; donations; or any combination thereof. The local match must be confirmed at the time of application. Costs must be incurred and paid for before reimbursement can be made.

 

## 4. Application Process & Deadline

The[ RTP Timeline](https://www.parkrec.nd.gov/business/sites/www/files/documents/Grant%20Pictures/FY24%20Recreational%20Trails%20Program%20Timeline%2011.22.pdf) provides a complete schedule of the program.  

- RTP application opens April 3, 2023.
- Completed applications are due April 28, 2023.

 

## 5. How to Get Started
