SHORT DESCRIPTION:
- Safe Routes to School Demonstration Project Technical Assistance will support communities with existing SRTS plans in undertaking the process to plan, design, and implement a SRTS demonstration project in their community. Professional facilitated workshops are set up for the selected communities to examine safety issues while developing solutions for their SRTS plans.
WHAT ARE DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS:
- Demonstration projects are short term, low-cost, temporary roadway projects used to pilot long-term design solutions to improve walking/bicycling and public spaces. These projects allow public agencies, community partners, as well as people walking, biking, taking transit, and driving to evaluate potential infrastructure improvements before investing in permanent changes.
WHO’S ELIGIBLE:
- Minnesota communities with existing SRTS plans, or other comprehensive SRTS approaches, in undertaking the process to plan, design, and implement a SRTS demonstration project in their community.
- An eligible project is one that will benefit kids walking or biking to and from school.
APPLICATION PROCESS AND DEADLINE:
- Applications must be submitted 5 p.m. on October 2, 2020. Work will begin for the selected communities in February 2021, completing work by June 2021 or starting in August 2021 and completing work in November 2021.
