The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act has appropriated $500 million in grant money for energy efficiency improvements and renewable energy improvements at public school facilities.

- Air Conditioning Systems
- Ventilation Systems
- Heating Plant
- Domestic Hot Water Heating System
- Compressed Air Systems
- Distribution Systems
- Lighting Systems
- Power Systems
- Building Controls
- Improvements for Teacher and Student Health that achieve Energy Savings
- Renewable Energy Technologies
- Alternative Vehicles
- Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Improvements
Application Priorities:
In general, priority will be given to eligible grant applicants who:
- Have funding needs for renovation, repair, and improvements
- Serve a high percentage of students who are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch
- Leverage private sector investment through energy-related performance contracting
Next Steps:
An official Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is anticipated to be issued fall 2022 with more information on the application process. However, we do know the application will need to include:
- Needs assessment of the current condition of the school and school facilities
- Description of the energy improvements at each facility
- Draft work plan of the intended achievements
- Assessment of anticipated needs for operation and maintenance training funds
- Proposed cost estimate
